Who This Policy Covers / What Buffer Is
Buffer is a website (trybuffer.co) and a companion Chrome extension. The extension works with Claude: while Claude is generating a response, Buffer can show a sponsored card and credit the person using it for the attention it received. This policy covers the Buffer website and the Buffer Chrome extension together.
Information We Collect
Account information. When you create a Buffer account, we collect your email address and password, handled by Supabase Auth, or your Google account identity if you sign in with Google. We also collect your date of birth, used only to verify that you’re old enough to use Buffer (see “Minimum Age” below).
Extension data on your device. The Buffer extension stores only two things in your browser’s local extension storage (chrome.storage.local): the credential that pairs the extension with your Buffer account, and whether you’ve turned Buffer on or off.
Website visits. When someone loads the Buffer homepage, we record a single anonymous row containing only an ID and a timestamp. We do not record an IP address, user agent, page path, session, or any identity alongside it.
Waitlist. If you join the Buffer waitlist, we collect the email address and AI tool you provide, and an optional free-text location. We temporarily use a hashed version of your IP address to prevent abuse of the waitlist form; we do not store your raw IP address.
Minimum Age
Buffer requires everyone who uses it to be 13 years of age or older. We ask for your date of birth to verify this. Your date of birth is used only for this age check — it is never shown to advertisers or to other Buffer users.
How We Use Information
We use the information described above to:
- Create and secure your account, and verify you meet Buffer’s minimum age requirement.
- Pair the Buffer extension with your account and recognize it on later requests.
- Detect when Claude is generating a response, show an eligible sponsored card, and credit the resulting earning to your account.
- Send the one waitlist welcome email, if you join the waitlist.
- Protect the waitlist form from abuse using a temporary, hashed rate-limit key.
- Maintain an aggregate count of homepage visits.
What We Share and With Whom
We work with a small number of service providers to run Buffer:
- Supabase provides our database, authentication, and session infrastructure.
- Vercel hosts the Buffer website.
- Resend sends the one waitlist welcome email.
- Google is used only for Google Sign-In. Buffer does not receive any additional Google profile information beyond what that sign-in flow provides.
Advertisers and businesses. Businesses that run campaigns on Buffer receive aggregate campaign information only — for example, total spend and impression counts. They do not receive an individual user’s identity, browsing history, Claude content, IP address, or any per-user record of ad activity.
What we don’t do. Buffer does not sell user data. We do not share user data with advertising platforms or data brokers. We do not build advertising profiles from users’ browsing activity.
Buffer only accesses and uses data necessary to provide the extension’s functionality. We do not transfer user data to advertisers, advertising platforms, or data brokers, and we do not use user data for personalized advertising or profiling unrelated to that core functionality.
Retention and Account Deactivation
You can deactivate your Buffer account at any time from your account settings. Deactivating your account signs you out, revokes your extension’s access, invalidates any pairing code you haven’t yet redeemed, and handles any pending payout request according to Buffer’s current payout process.
Deactivating your account does not delete your account record, or your historical campaign, earning, wallet, payout, impression, or selection records. Some records may be retained where necessary for accounting, security, fraud and abuse prevention, dispute resolution, or other legal obligations. We don’t currently commit to a fixed retention period for these records.
Extension-Specific Disclosures
The Buffer extension stores only your paired account credential and your on/off preference locally, in your browser’s extension storage.
While you’re on Claude, the extension reads the page locally only to detect whether Claude is currently generating a response. That page content never leaves your browser and is never sent to Buffer.
When the extension does talk to Buffer’s servers, it sends your paired credential (to identify your account) and, for showing and crediting a sponsored card, a selection ID. The extension does not send Claude’s page content, your browsing history, or the URLs you visit.
The extension does not load fonts or any other third-party resource at runtime.
Cookies and Similar Technologies
The Buffer website uses a session cookie, set by Supabase Auth, to keep you signed in. We do not use any third-party analytics tools or tracking scripts.
Children's Privacy
Buffer requires everyone who uses it to be at least 13 years old, and verifies this using the date of birth provided at signup (see “Minimum Age” above). Buffer is not directed at, and should not be used by, anyone under 13.
